We are pleased that you have decided to study with us! You are surely asking yourself a couple of questions about the start of your studies, which we will be happy to answer here.

How does the Corona situation affect my first university semester?
The Ruhr-Uni Bochum is currently working under Covid-19 conditions. For you, this means that you can expect a mixture of face-to-face and online courses in the winter semester 2020/21.
General information about the Covid19 conditions at the RUB can be found at www.rub.de/de/informationen-zu-corona.

When does the semester start?
The lectures for first semester students in the winter semester 2020/21 will start on November 2, 2020.
To make sure that you can find your way around your studies despite the restrictions caused by Covid-19, the BI & UTRM student councils invite you to their introductory program in the end of October. There you can find out more about everyday university life, the course content and important contact persons. Here are the first details:

Civil Engineering:
The BI student council cordially invites you to its online event on October 19, 2020 or on October 20, 2020, 11a.m.. The same programme will be offered on both days, so you can choose one of the dates. You can also take part in an afternoon campus rally at the RUB in small groups. Further information on the programme and studying can be found in the Moodle course Bauing Ersties 2020/2021 (WiSe20/21).

Environmental Engineering and Resources Management:
The UTRM student council is looking forward to meeting you online on October 21, 2020 and to giving you an insight into the university everyday life. Further information on the programme and the UTRM programme can be found in the Moodle course UTRM Ersties 2020/2021 (WiSe20/21).

What information is still relevant for me?
Berivan Güzel and Laurenz Grigoleit will begin their studies at the RUB in November 2020 and will give tips for a successful start to your studies on the Instagram channel of the RUB.
On the central RUB pages you can find more information about starting your studies in Corona times.
The Centre for Science Didactics at the RUB has created a moodle course for first semester students on the "Introduction to online studying at the RUB". There you can get some initial information about the RUB's online tools.

Whom can I contact if I have any questions?
If you have special questions, you can always contact the student councils BI & UTRM and the student councelling.

We are looking forward to meeting you in the end of October!
