Guest lecture: Numerical approaches for the design of fibre reinforced concrete structures

On 11 October 2023, the Chair of Structural and Dynamics welcomes Prof. Joaquim A. O. Barros, member of ISISE (Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering) and professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Minho in Portugal, to the Faculty. Interested parties are cordially invited to his lecture "Numerical approaches for the design of fibre reinforced concrete structures".

During his presentation, Prof. Joaquim A. O. Barros will discuss nonlinear material models that are able to simulate the mechanisms of fibre-reinforced concrete structures. Besides the possibilities, the weaknesses of these models are also discussed. The challenges of determining reliable values for the key parameters that define the constitutive laws of these models are also addressed. Finally, one of these models will be used to design representative structures where fibre reinforcement has technical and economic advantages.
