As part of the nationwide Girls' Day, schoolgirls were given exciting insights into the diverse fields of work of civil and environmental engineers at RUB on April 3, 2025.
After a brief introduction to the “world of concrete as a building material”, the participants had the opportunity to mix concrete themselves and make their own personal memento, an Audimax pen holder. Another station on the day was the laboratory of the Chair of Engineering Hydrology and Water Management, where the students were able to recreate elevation models in the AR sandbox and have them sprinkled virtually. The participants also found a dam breakage experiment particularly illustrative, which focused on the increasing flood disasters caused by climate change.
The third point of contact on the program was bridge construction: at the Chair of Statics and Dynamics, bridge constructions made of various materials were built and tested both analog and digitally. This made it clear to the participants how extensive the engineering know-how for such construction projects must be.
The day was rounded off with a break in the canteen with students and a short detour to the RUB Botanical Garden.
