Tandem.MINT: Language learning programme for engineering students

15.09.2023

Tandem.MINT 2023

The language tandem programme Tandem.MINT enables students of scientific and technical degree programmes to learn languages individually and subject-related: In exchange with their tandem partners, who speak their target language as a native language or at a high level, students can expand their foreign language skills and at the same time test their abilities in intercultural communication.

The participants practise the foreign language in realistic situations and thus become more confident in using the language in everyday life and in their studies. The fact that the tandem partners are also studying a scientific or technical subject gives the participants the opportunity to establish a connection to their studies, to test their language skills in a technical context and to acquire technical vocabulary.

Participating in Tandem.MINT can be helpful in preparing for a study-related stay abroad. In addition, participants can train to work together in a multilingual, multicultural team - in this way, key competences for the globalised world of work can already be acquired during their studies.

After successful completion, students receive a certificate confirming their participation and the contents of the tandem.

If you are a student of a STEM degree programme at RUB, you can register by 15 October 2023 for participation in the winter semester 2023/24. Prerequisite is knowledge of the target language on at least level B1 (for languages such as Arabic, Chinese or Russian: level A2) as well as knowledge of the source language on a native speaker or similarly high level (at least C1).

NEW: Starting in the winter semester, an ungraded 5 CP variant of Tandem.MINT will be offered. The website will be adapted accordingly in due time to make the additional requirements visible.
