The Department of Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, and Environmental Geotechnics is offering a Pentecost field trip from May 26, 2026, to May 28, 2026, during which students from the faculty will have the opportunity to gain fascinating insights into real-world applications.

Once again this year, students from the faculty have the opportunity to visit exciting construction sites as part of the Pentecost field trip and get an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the participating companies. The program includes the following stops:

  • Tour of the ELBX construction project: Excavation pit with tunnel boring
  • Tour of the Nikolai Quarter excavation site: Construction of a complex excavation pit involving specialized civil engineering work, particularly diaphragm walls and bored piles
  • Tour of the U5 construction project in northern Hamburg: Presentation of the overall project and the methods used, construction of tunnel sections, stations, and emergency exits. Tour of the excavation pits at various stages of construction.
  • Site visit to the Südschnellweg construction project: Relocation of a 1.1 km-long inner-city federal highway from an elevated section into a tunnel; overview of the overall project, tour of the various construction elements (temporary bridges, retaining dams) and ongoing work (including anchoring and underwater concrete pouring)

Safety shoes, a helmet, and a high-visibility vest are required for the excursion. When registering, please indicate whether you have these items or if they should be provided by the faculty (including your shoe size).

The cost is €70, which includes all transportation, accommodations, and site visits. The minimum number of participants is 10 students; a maximum of 19 students may participate.

Those interested may register via e-mail by Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 12:00 PM.
