The project "INGQueens"

The anniversary

The year 2025 is special - Ruhr-Universität Bochum is celebrating its 60th anniversary. In April 2000, 25 years ago, Stefanie Reese took up her post as the first female professor in the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering. She was thus Germany's first woman to be appointed to a professorship in mechanics. Today she is Rector of the University of Siegen.

The idea

Since 2022, the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering has been supporting its female Master's students in the form of the mentoring program “Breaking the glass ceiling - early installation of professional networks for female engineers”. This network ultimately gave rise to the INGQueens project.

The aim of INGQueens is to increase the visibility of the work and achievements of female scientists at our faculty, to motivate women to pursue a career in engineering and to strengthen female role models. INGQueens therefore focuses on the female professors at the faculty who have paved the way for future female engineers. The career paths of the female professors are more than impressive, courageous and diverse - let yourself be inspired!

Be part of it!

The INGQueens team has developed the event “Women Engineers in Transition - Review, Insight and Outlook”, an exhibition and a podcast to promote the visibility of female professors, open discussions on “Women in Engineering” and the promotion of women's networks. We cordially invite you to attend, exchange ideas or simply listen in order to counteract the developments and to create new role models for young, female talents.

Information about the event, the exhibition and the podcast can be found below. We would be delighted if you would accompany us on our “journey”.

Women engineers in transition: review, insight and outlook

On Thursday, June 26, 2025, all faculty members and alumni are cordially invited to the event “Women Engineers in Transition: Review, Insight and Outlook”, which will take place from 3 pm to 6 pm in the Bentonite Laboratory of the Chair of Tunneling, Pipeline Construction and Construction Management (room IC 04-520, entrance via the north side of the IC building).

In a relaxed atmosphere, you can expect a moderated program with exciting insights into the impressive career paths of our female professors as well as discussions on the role of women in engineering then, now and in the future. The event offers the ideal setting for an honest exchange with (prospective) female engineers, making new contacts or even reminiscing about fond memories of old RUB student days.

If you would like to attend the event “Women Engineers in Transition: Review, Insight and Outlook”, please register briefly.

Celebrate with us - we look forward to seeing you!

A portrait of the female pioneers

For more visibility of the female professors of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, you will find an exhibition parallel to the event "Women Engineers in Transition: Retrospect, Insight and Outlook" on level 04 in the IC building. Learn more about the successful female engineers, their stations before and after their work at RUB as well as their remarkable milestones with which they have enriched civil and environmental engineering.

Even after the event, you will come across portraits of the female professors in the IC building.

The podcast

Look forward to exciting and particularly honest interviews with the six female professors of the faculty. In the INGQueens podcast, we show you whether and which personal or professional hurdles they have overcome on their career path and how their work has set an important course for the future of female engineers. You will soon be able to access the individual podcast episodes here.
