Discover science, ask questions, and conduct your own experiments: On September 25, 2026, the “Geistesblitz” science festival will make its debut in downtown Bochum. From 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., researchers from the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering will also invite visitors to learn about their research in a relaxed atmosphere.

Across five themed areas at seven locations in Bochum, visitors to the “Geistesblitz” science festival can explore various fields of research, participate in hands-on activities, and engage in conversation with scientists. The event is open to all age groups. Admission to all activities is free.

“Let’s Talk! Science Up Close – LIVE” – 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Centre for City Futures (formerly Blue Square, Kortumstraße 90, Bochum)

The Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering is participating, among other initiatives, in the “Let’s Talk! Science Direct – LIVE” discussion series. This series gives members of the public the opportunity to engage directly with researchers in 30-minute one-on-one conversations. Dr.-Ing. Tito Gehring from the Chair of Urban Water Management and Environmental Engineering is available to participate in these discussions on behalf of the school. As part of his research, he is exploring how urban water infrastructures can be sustainably developed and better aligned with a circular economy. One current approach combines wastewater and renewable energy to convert CO₂ from exhaust gases into high-quality chemicals. Discussion slots can be booked online in advance.
