On June 25, 2026, the second edition of the INGQueens event “Women Engineers in Transition – A Look Back, A Look Inside, and A Look Ahead” will take place, honoring outstanding women engineers. Guests will include Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ulrike Kuhlmann (University of Stuttgart, Institute for Construction and Design), the first female doctoral candidate and the first female engineer appointed to a C4 professorship in the Department of Steel, Timber, and Composite Structures. Those interested can register for the event now.

Since 2022, the faculty’s mentoring program “BreakING the glass ceiling – Early Establishment of Professional Networks for Female Engineers” has been promoting the development of professional networks for (aspiring) female engineers. This network gave rise to the INGQueens project, which in 2025 successfully spotlighted female professors in the faculty and, through the event “Female Engineers in Transition – Retrospective, Insight, and Outlook,” provided an ideal platform for inspiration, exchange, and new connections.

On June 25, 2026, the INGQueens event “Women Engineers in Transition – Retrospective, Insight, and Outlook” enters its second round and celebrates a very special anniversary this year: the 40th anniversary of the doctoral degree conferral of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ulrike Kuhlmann (University of Stuttgart, Institute for Construction and Design). Prof. Ulrike Kuhlmann was not only the first female doctoral candidate but also the first female engineer appointed to a C4 professorship in the Department of Steel, Timber, and Composite Structures. As a professor at the Institute of Steel, Timber, and Composite Structures at the University of Stuttgart, she developed the innovative teaching concept “Stuttgart Design-Oriented and Cross-Material Teaching,” for which she received the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon in 1999. Throughout her career, she has been active in numerous national and international committees and has been honored with many awards.

In a welcoming atmosphere, visitors can look forward to a diverse program featuring fascinating guests, discussions about the evolution of the engineering profession—past, present, and future—as well as ample opportunity to share experiences and network.

Complementing the event, an exhibition and the INGQueens podcast offer exclusive insights into the careers and experiences of female engineers at the faculty. Hear compelling stories about gender stereotypes, supporters along their paths, and the hurdles and highlights of their professional careers.
