The idea
Since 2022, the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering has been supporting its female Master's students in the form of the mentoring program “Breaking the glass ceiling - early installation of professional networks for female engineers”. This network ultimately gave rise to the INGQueens project.
INGQueens shows what women can achieve in engineering. We introduce female professors, doctoral students, graduates, and students who want to encourage other women with their achievements and stories. These women's career paths and personal situations are exciting, courageous, and diverse. They have overcome obstacles and are role models for anyone who wants to get started in engineering. Get to know them and be inspired by their successes!
The implementation
To increase the visibility of female professors and promote open discussions about the role of women in engineering, the INGQueens team developed the event series "Female Engineers in Transition - Retrospective, Insight, and Outlook." The first successful event took place on June 26, 2025, with more to follow. An exhibition and podcasts are permanently available initiatives of the INGQueen project.
Further information about the exhibition, the podcasts, and past press releases can be found below.
We look forward to more interesting events in the coming years and would be delighted if you would join us on our further journey.
On June 25, 2026, INGQueens will celebrate a very special anniversary: the 40th anniversary of Prof. Ulrike Kuhlmann's (University of Stuttgart, Institute of Design and Engineering) doctorate. We will be honoring this event as part of our series of events entitled “Women Engineers in Transition – Review, Insight, and Outlook,” which once again focuses on outstanding female engineers and their career paths.
In an open and inspiring atmosphere, you can expect a varied program with exciting personal insights, discussions about the development of the engineering profession – then, now, and in the future – as well as plenty of opportunity for exchange. Whether you are a (prospective) engineer, an old RUB acquaintance, or interested in networking, this event offers the ideal opportunity to make new contacts and share experiences.
Even after the launch event, you will continue to encounter portraits of the professors in various sections of the I series and in the administrative area.
Learn more about these successful female engineers, their careers before and after their work at RUB, and the remarkable milestones they have achieved in enriching civil and environmental engineering.
The exhibition is currently located in the southern area of the IC building on Level 04.
Look forward to exciting and particularly honest interviews with the six female professors of the faculty. In the INGQueens podcast, we show you whether and which personal or professional hurdles they have overcome on their career path and how their work has set an important course for the future of female engineers.
