20.07.2026: The CREATE large-scale research facility speeds up concrete production

On July 15, 2026, CREATE (Concrete Robotics Engineering in Automation Technology), a large-scale research facility unique in the world, was inaugurated at the KIB-KON test hall. There, three industrial robots produce fully load-bearing concrete components in just three hours—a process that previously could take several weeks.

On June 25, 2026, the event “INGQueens – Women Engineers in Transition: A Look Back, Insights, and Outlook” brought together different generations of women engineers and transformed the Bentonite Lab into a hub for inspiration, exchange, and empowerment.

The Wind Technology Society e.V. presented its new Technical Bulletin, “Numerical Simulation of Wind Flows,” at the 8th International Symposium on Computational Wind Engineering in Canada.

On June 15, 2026, Dean Prof. Daniel Balzani was awarded the Eugenio Beltrami Senior Scientist Prize of the Center of Mathematics and Mechanics of Complex Systems in L’Aquila, Italy.

Interested female master’s students in the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering may apply for the “BreakING” mentoring program until 15th September 2026, which will begin its fifth round in November 2026.

27.05.2026: Inside RUB - Information Day for prospective students

On June 11, 2026, Ruhr University Bochum will open its doors to prospective students. As part of the “ING Mile,” the three engineering faculties will offer a variety of hands-on activities and opportunities to talk with current students, providing an exciting glimpse into engineering studies.

21.05.2026: Available: Scholarships for Masters' theses at Tongji University, Shanghai

As part of the “Sino-D-A-CH Center for Smart Civil Infrastructure in Shanghai,” the faculty is offering two scholarships for a duration of 6 months. 

20.05.2026: INGQueens: Inspiration, Exchange and Empowerment

On June 25, 2026, the second edition of the INGQueens event “Women Engineers in Transition – A Look Back, A Look Inside, and A Look Ahead” will take place, honoring outstanding women engineers. Guests will include Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ulrike Kuhlmann (University of Stuttgart, Institute for Construction and Design), the first female doctoral candidate and the first female engineer appointed to a C4 professorship in the Department of Steel, Timber, and Composite Structures. Those interested can register for the event now.

18.05.2026: Pentecost Field Trip 2026

The Department of Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, and Environmental Geotechnics is offering a Pentecost field trip from May 26, 2026, to May 28, 2026, during which students from the faculty will have the opportunity to gain fascinating insights into real-world applications.

24.04.2026: Prof. Annette Hafner Appointed for a Fourth Term

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Annette Haffner, Head of the Chair of Resource-Efficient Construction, will continue her work on the Scientific Advisory Board for Forest Policy. The Advisory Board supports the federal government in shaping the framework conditions for sustainable forest management, including the use and application of wood as a raw material.

22.04.2026: Merita Tafili Appointed Professor in the Field of Computational Geotechnics

On April 15, 2026, Dr.-Ing. Merita Tafili was appointed to the newly established Chair of Computational Geotechnics.

22.04.2026: Networking Workshop for Women in the Faculty

On March 26, 2026, the Faculty’s Decentralized Gender Equality Office hosted the second networking workshop for women in the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

01.04.2026: Tandem.MINT - Register now!

The Tandem.MINT language tandem program offers students in science and engineering programs the opportunity for personalized, subject-specific language learning: Through interaction with a tandem partner who is a native speaker of the target language or has a high level of proficiency in it, students can improve their foreign language skills and develop their intercultural competencies. Registration is open until April 19, 2026.

01.04.2026: FWJ: A year full of opportunities

The Voluntary Academic Year (FWJ) offers high school graduates an ideal opportunity to spend a year getting to know university life and the day-to-day work environment at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, to explore their options, and to solidify their choices regarding their future studies and career. The application deadline for the next session is April 30, 2026.

The first fireside evening of the BreakING round 2025/2026 took place on February 10, 2026. With a “fireside,” drinks, and snacks, the bentonite laboratory was transformed into a place of exchange.

14.01.2026: Tunnel Construction Lab Course

At the start of the new semester after the winter break, students of civil engineering and subsurface engineering took part in a laboratory practical in the bentonite laboratory of the Chair of Tunneling, Pipeline Construction, and Construction Management.
