June 2025
The one-year term of office for the representatives of the student group for the Senate and the Faculty Councils expires on September 30, 2025. This year's elections for the Faculty Councils and the Senate will be held as online elections. The election portal will be open from June 23, 2025 from 12:00 noon (opening of the election portal) until June 25, 2025, 12:00 noon.
Based on his merits for the development of academic and scientific mutual relations between the two universities, Prof. Dr. Peter Mark was appointed honorary professor of the University “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University in Skopje.
On May 21, 2025, the Construct-X project was presented to the public for the first time at the Construction Industry Day in front of an illustrious audience from politics and business. The cross-industry project, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy with almost 28 million euros, is developing open, cloud-based data rooms and standards for the secure and rapid exchange of construction and plant data.

Interested female Master's students from the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering have until 30 June 2025 to apply for the “BreakING” mentoring program, which will enter its fourth round in September 2025.
The Project Office for Construction and Environment (PBU) offers students of the Faculty a comprehensive range of support in relation to scientific work techniques. Every year, the activities of the institution are summarized in a descriptive annual report. This can now be viewed here, along with a statement from Prof.'in Hafner, holder of the Institute for Resource-Efficient Building, who chairs the PBU.
The information event on the specializations in the Master's degree program in Civil Engineering will take place on Wednesday, 21st May 2025, at 14:00 (s.t.) in the lecture hall HIB.

On 26 of june 2025, Ruhr-Universität Bochum will open its doors to prospective students. Under the umbrella of the PR cooperative AllesING, the engineering sciences invite visitors to the “ING Mile” from 10 a.m. and offer an exciting look at engineering studies with a variety of hands-on stations, information lectures and opportunities to exchange ideas with students.
Just in time for the 25th anniversary of the first female professor at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the INGQueens project is being launched. It aims to increase the visibility of female scientists, strengthen women's networks and create new female role models.
We welcome Dr.-Ing. Christoph Baer as the new Managing Director at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering and look forward to a good cooperation!

A study conducted by the Chair of Traffic Engineering - Planning and Management on behalf of the City of Düsseldorf investigated how the red coloring of cycle lanes affects the behavior and sense of safety of road users.
From March 31 to April 4, 2025, the third annual workshop of the CO2NSTRUCT project took place at the Ruhr University Bochum. The aim of the project is to work out the path to greater sustainability in the construction industry and to promote the introduction of the circular economy in the construction sector - a major challenge on the way to a carbon-neutral Europe.

In November last year, the German Research Foundation announced the approval of the Collaborative Research Center 1683 “Methods of interaction for the modular reuse of existing load-bearing structures”. Today, on April 1, 2025, the new CRC 1683 will start its research work under the leadership of Prof. Peter Mark as spokesperson and Dr. David Sanio as scientific coordinator.

On March 14, 2025, the Chair of Traffic Route Construction (LVW) hosted the event “A look back at 20 years of sustainable, innovative bitumen and asphalt research at the LVW” in memory of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Martin Radenberg. Around 100 guests from all over Germany came together.

Steven Gomes is studying civil engineering at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut, USA, and has now been a guest at the Chair of Tunnelling and Construction Management as part of a three-month research internship.
On April 3, 2025, the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites interested schoolgirls to take part in an exciting hands-on program about the construction of the future as part of this year's Girls' Day.
In order to better predict the effects of using geothermal energy on the soil and the environment, Dr. Merita Tafili wants to develop precise simulations of the micromechanical processes in the soil. The German Research Foundation is supporting this project with an Emmy Noether Junior Research Group and around 1.7 million euros.
In the episode “Wood - A decisive raw material for climate protection” of the TV program “KlimaZeit”, produced by Hessischer Rundfunk and Südwestrundfunk, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Annette Hafner, Head of the Chair of Resource Efficient Building, answers questions on the topic of wood as a sustainable building material.

On January 23, 2025, mentees, mentors and other guests met for the BreakING fireside evening in the bentonite laboratory of the Chair of Tunnelling, Pipeline Construction and Construction Management, during which Christiane Kitscha and Frieda Lange, long-standing employees of the tunnel construction engineering office BabEng GmbH, offered personal insights into their career paths.

On January 17, 2025, the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering hosted its annual Academic Anniversary Celebration at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum's Event Center. The event was moderated by Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Marc Wichern, Dean of the Faculty, and Manuela Heinrichs, student and member of the student council of the Civil Engineering course.
On January 14, 2025, several final theses at the Chair of Computing in Engineering were honored by the RG-Bau at the RKW Competence Center as part of the “Built on IT - Construction Professions with a Future” competition.
The international Master's degree course in Computational Engineering has been offered at the faculty since 2000 - with great and still growing success and interest on the part of prospective students from all over the world. Now there was a change in the course direction.
