10.04.2025: Red wheel ruts: positive effects confirmed

A study conducted by the Chair of Traffic Engineering - Planning and Management on behalf of the City of Düsseldorf investigated how the red coloring of cycle lanes affects the behavior and sense of safety of road users.

09.04.2025: CO2NSTRUCT workshop at the RUB

From March 31 to April 4, 2025, the third annual workshop of the CO2NSTRUCT project took place at the Ruhr University Bochum. The aim of the project is to work out the path to greater sustainability in the construction industry and to promote the introduction of the circular economy in the construction sector - a major challenge on the way to a carbon-neutral Europe.

01.04.2025: Rethinking Building: SFB 1683 begins Research Work

In November last year, the German Research Foundation announced the approval of the Collaborative Research Center 1683 “Methods of interaction for the modular reuse of existing load-bearing structures”. Today, on April 1, 2025, the new CRC 1683 will start its research work under the leadership of Prof. Peter Mark as spokesperson and Dr. David Sanio as scientific coordinator.

On March 26, 2025, the decentralized equal opportunities team at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering invited interested women to a networking workshop.

On March 14, 2025, the Chair of Traffic Route Construction (LVW) hosted the event “A look back at 20 years of sustainable, innovative bitumen and asphalt research at the LVW” in memory of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Martin Radenberg. Around 100 guests from all over Germany came together.

20.02.2025: From dream to research internship in Germany

Steven Gomes is studying civil engineering at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut, USA, and has now been a guest at the Chair of Tunnelling and Construction Management as part of a three-month research internship.

On April 3, 2025, the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites interested schoolgirls to take part in an exciting hands-on program about the construction of the future as part of this year's Girls' Day.

14.02.2025: Optimizing the use of geothermal energy

In order to better predict the effects of using geothermal energy on the soil and the environment, Dr. Merita Tafili wants to develop precise simulations of the micromechanical processes in the soil. The German Research Foundation is supporting this project with an Emmy Noether Junior Research Group and around 1.7 million euros.

In the episode “Wood - A decisive raw material for climate protection” of the TV program “KlimaZeit”, produced by Hessischer Rundfunk and Südwestrundfunk, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Annette Hafner, Head of the Chair of Resource Efficient Building, answers questions on the topic of wood as a sustainable building material.

03.02.2025: BreakING: Fireside evening with Christiane Kitscha and Frieda Lange

On January 23, 2025, mentees, mentors and other guests met for the BreakING fireside evening in the bentonite laboratory of the Chair of Tunnelling, Pipeline Construction and Construction Management, during which Christiane Kitscha and Frieda Lange, long-standing employees of the tunnel construction engineering office BabEng GmbH, offered personal insights into their career paths.

29.01.2025: Review: Academic Year Celebration

On January 17, 2025, the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering hosted its annual Academic Anniversary Celebration at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum's Event Center. The event was moderated by Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Marc Wichern, Dean of the Faculty, and Manuela Heinrichs, student and member of the student council of the Civil Engineering course.

23.01.2025: “Built on IT” - award-winning young talents

On January 14, 2025, several final theses at the Chair of Computing in Engineering were honored by the RG-Bau at the RKW Competence Center as part of the “Built on IT - Construction Professions with a Future” competition.

21.01.2025: New course director for CompEng

The international Master's degree course in Computational Engineering has been offered at the faculty since 2000 - with great and still growing success and interest on the part of prospective students from all over the world. Now there was a change in the course direction.

13.01.2025: CANCELED: Inside RUB - Information day for prospective students

On February 10, 2025, Ruhr-Universität Bochum will open its doors to prospective students. The engineering sciences invite visitors to the “ING Mile” from 10 a.m. and offer an exciting look at engineering studies with a variety of hands-on stations, information lectures and opportunities to exchange ideas with students.
